About the Publisher
My name is Barbara Rotger. Family lore attributes my lifelong interest in food to the fact that my crib was located in the dining room, while I was fed banana-based formula. With this start, who wouldn’t keep thinking about food?
My career path took me from a near-miss with a career in food science, to an undergraduate degree in Russian studies, followed by work as Administrator in Harvard’s Ukrainian Research Institute, which lead to a pivot to an MA in Gastronomy and a career in food studies. I can map out the connection for those who are interested. Sometimes you are just in the right place at the right time.
When I’m not thinking about food jobs, I like to think about recipe boxes. In my master’s thesis I propose a methodology for analyzing personal recipe collections and historical, cultural, and gendered artifacts. This also serves as justification for growing my own stockpile recipe boxes, historic cookbooks and culinary ephemera of all kinds. Yes, you will catch me scanning your Little Free Library for spiral bound volumes and signs of community cookbooks.
My aim with this newsletter is to help readers find meaningful food-related employment. I hope you will subscribe — it’s free, for now. Don’t miss an opportunity to find your dream job thinking (deeply) about food.
